PRIME (P)

>> Watch the video

Application of a primer on any untreated surface (usually crushed rock) in order to bind it and to act as a bound between the original base and the final surfacing (either seal or asphalt).

Primer : bituminous material of low viscosity and low surface tension.

Either an emulsion prime or cutback bitumen

(See EPA specifications).

1.  Brooming the existing surface,

2.  Spraying prime.

PRIMERSEAL

(PS)

Application of a primerbinder on any untreated surface (usually crushed rock), followed by the application of a layer of aggregate. It is a temporary treatment requiring a final surfacing (seal or asphalt).

Primerbinder: more viscous than a prime.

Cutback bitumen

(See EPA specifications).

1.  Brooming the existing surface,

2.  Spraying primerbinder,

3.  Spreading / Covering with aggregate,

4.  Rolling aggregate for embedment,

5.  Brooming / Removing the excess aggregate.

EMULSION PRIMERSEAL

(CRS)

Application of a primerbinder on any untreated surface (usually crushed rock), followed by the application of a layer of aggregate. It is a temporary treatment requiring a final surfacing (seal or asphalt).

Primerbinder: more viscous than a prime.

Bitumen emulsion

(See EPA specifications).

1.  Brooming the existing surface,

2.  Spraying primerbinder,

3.  Spreading / Covering with aggregate,

4.  Rolling aggregate for embedment,
